How do you install Search Engine
Cloaker?
1.) Download the software On the URL that you were given after
you purchased Search Engine Cloaker there should be a link that says
"Download the software (content.zip)". You will want to right
click on that link and the click "Save Target As...". Next choose
the folder that you want SEC to be downloaded in.
2.) Unzip the content.zip file Locate the "content.zip" file
that you just downloaded and double click on the file. This should
open up an "unzip" program to "extract" the 5 files that make up the
software. Next save those five files to the hard drive on your
computer. DO NOT EDIT THESE FILES.
3.) Uploading the files to your website
Now that you have the five files saved to your computer it is time to
upload them onto your server. In a
previous question we
discussed how to upload files to a server. You will want to
reference that tutorial when uploading these five files. You can
either use a FTP program or your Web console through your hosting
provider. You will want to UPLOAD THE FILES TO THE CGI-BIN.
The "cgi-bin" should be located in your root directory (home,
public_html, www). If you can't locate the "cgi-bin" then look for
something with "cgi" in the name and that is most likely your executable
folder. If the "cgi-bin" doesn't exist at all then it is most
likely that you can just upload the files into the root directory.
4.) Change
permissions to 755 Now that you have the 5 files uploaded to your
cgi-bin it is time to change the permissions. Again, in a
previous question we discussed how to change
permissions through both FTP and using a web console. You need to
change the permissions for all 5 perl files to 755, which means you need
to check the three "execute" boxes. If your SEC install doesn't
work, try changing your permissions to 777, which means that you check
all the boxes.
5.) Access
the SEC control panel You have finished installing the
software, so now it is time to access the Search Engine Cloaker
management console. It is recommended that you turnoff any
GoogleBar or Alexa installs that you have on your browser before you
access your management console. To access the console you will
want to go to a URL that looks something like this:
http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/manage.pl. The default password
is "password".
