What is the best way to
configure Search Engine Cloaker?
Help Tab The
Help Tab is a good resource for information on understanding the basics
of cloaking. I recommend that you read through it and pay special
attention to the tutorial on how to setup .htaccess because later we
will be setting up .htaccess cloaking.
Keywords Tab
For the advanced setup of Search Engine Cloaker you can just ignore the
keywords tab.
Basic Config Tab
-
Status Of Search Engine Cloaker: This should be set to "active"
when you are done setting up SEC. -
URL(s) To Send Users To:
This is where you put the URL of your landing page. If you are
sending visitors directly to an affiliates page then put your affiliate
link. The URL should be in the format
"http://www.yourlandingpage.com". -
Average Number Of Words
Per Cloaked Page: Leave this blank because when using the
Templates Add-on this feature is not used. -
Management Console
Password: This should have been already changed, but this is the
password that you use to login to the SEC Management Console. -
Management Console Name: This should be changed to something that
resembles a password. Basically this should be something that no
one will guess because you don't want people to see your SEC Management
Console login page because if they do then they will know that you are
cloaking. Just remember that when you change this your new URL to
login to your SEC Management Console will be http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/CHANGED.pl.
This renames the manage.pl files that you uploaded to your cgi-bin.
-
SiteMap Keyword: Leave blank -
Search Engine Spiders:
Don't change any of this. This will automatically update when you
click "submit now" on the basic config page. -
Program Updates:
Click "yes".

Advanced Config
Tab -
Target Word Density: Since we are using the
Templates Add-on this will not be used, so you can just leave it alone.
-
Name of Cloaking Script: Once again you will want to change this
for security purposes. Again, you can treat it like a password and
change it to anything that you want. This just renames the index.pl file that you uploaded to your cgi-bin. -
.htaccess Cloaking
Word: This you will want to change to "yes" and make the cloaking
word "html". -
Include URLs in Stuffer Pages: For our
purposes we will not be using stuffer pages so leave this configured to
"no". -
Testing URL Active?: For right now you can
leave this "active", but when you are done setting up Search Engine Cloaker you will want to adjust this to "inactive".
-
Hide Console Advertisements?:
You can leave this set to "Don't hide".
-
Cloaked Pre-Header:
Because we are using the Templates Add-on this will not be used. -
Cloaked Header:
Because we are using the Templates Add-on this will not be used. -
Cloaked Footer:
Because we are using the Templates Add-on this will not be used. -
Automatic Updates:
You can adjust these to your personal preferences, but I set
Auto-regenerate Hyperlinks to "no", Auto-clear logs set to "no",
Auto-update Program set to 5 days, and Auto-update Spiders set to 5
days.

Logs Tab -
Search Engine Spider Log:
This log will show you every time a search engine spider hits a cloaked
page. It will tell you the date, time, search engine (Yahoo,
Google, MSN,...), and the cloaked page URL. -
Real User Log:
This log will show you the real visitors that have visited a cloaked
page and got redirected to your landing page. If they came from a
search engine it will show you the search results page that they came
from. If you copy and paste that URL into your browser you will be
able to see what keywords were search for and where your cloaked page is
listed in the search engine.
Templates Add-on The
Templates Add-on will be discussed in more detail in
other FAQ questions.
Static Pages
Add-on You will need to activate this add-on with the
activation key you received when you purchased the Static Pages Add-on. -
Create Static Pages Automatically: You will
want to set this to "Automatically make Static Pages". -
Create Static Pages Right Now: We won't be using this feature.
-
Your Existing Static Pages: This is where your static pages will
be displayed. Every time a search engine spider hits a cloaked
page then it will be made static and added here.
